Teaching Aid: Communicating with Iraqi Citizens (Via Kotaku.) The BBC: “In the program, users must build trust with local people through verbal communication and gestures.”
When “the purpose is to teach soldiers that using the wrong gestures can potentially cause offence and escalate already tense situations,” this is the essence of serious games. I don’t see why k12 students might not benefit from similar cultural sensitivity simulations.
I was surprised to find that the game, “Tactical Iraqi,” is a mod of Unreal Tournament. Jean-Claude is in good company… or perhaps its Darpa that’s in good company. ;)
