These are my shared items and notes from Google Reader for March 2nd:
- Investment vs. Speculation – As I work to fill in some serious gaps in my own financial education, I'm finding some brief articles (or blog posts) help to crystallize important concepts for me. This was one of them.
- Electronic Frontier Foundation | Defending Freedom in the Digital World – I just renewed my EFF membership. They are doing great work to protect privacy, free speech, fair use, and other constitutional rights (with respect to electronic media).
- FAIL Blog: Pictures and Videos of Owned, Pwnd and Fail Moments – And life: this is just a humorous site that was going around the edutwittersphere recently. The best part? Users can even submit their own images or videos. It seems relatively clean at a glance. I wonder if it would ever make a good student activity?
- Tweet-up @ CUE – The CUE Community – Join us for the tweet up at CUE… or just add your name if you're interested in following (and being followed by) educators at the CUE conference.
- Tom Chapin – Not On The Test – A great song and great video for use in professional development… as a humorous kick off or a tension breaker later in the day… provided it's appropriate and relevant. :)
- Bottled vs. Tap – which is "better"? | Seventh Generation – I get the Seventh Generation newsletter and it sometimes has succinct and useful articles on the way consumers effect the environment. I appreciated this one about bottled water.
- Science of Hockey Exhibit – Opening April 2009 – What a cool combination of two things kids (and adults) love (or should)… science and hockey… and it's local to me. If it's still around in a few years, I'm taking Clark for sure. (Thanks to Jeremey Davis for posting this on twitter… I think.)
- Google Enters the Twitter Game : Google + Twitter = Twoogling? – Google is now on Twitter… and the tweets tend to be clever (or even poetic). If you're on too, I recommend following them. :)
- Some say video games teach math, other skills – Business – News & Observer – It's fantastic to see a company like Microsoft putting real money behind studying the learning potential behind video games.
- Moodle joins forces with Google – I'm not sure how easy this would be for anyone to implement, but it looks like there's at least one solution for integrating Moodle and Google Apps: Education Edition as a single sign on experience.
- Learn Sign Language – Signing Time News » Signing Time launches iPhone App – This is my new favorite iPhone app (for Clark of course)… Baby Signing Time, with flash cards, a sign dictionary (with video demonstrations), and of course some fun songs for Clark to watch.
- Fangtooth Surf Club – and life: My brother Dave (a successful financial planner) has started his first blog… for his long standing surf club. Cool. And great pics.
- CUE 2009 – This is the mobile version of the CUE conference online program… thanks to Alice Mercer who saw it through.
- 7 Habits of Highly Effective Twitterers: Kris Colvin | Blog of Mr. Tweet – For the most part, this article is as applicable to educators (and learners in general) as it is to anyone in business.
- learning.21st: Google Workshop for Educators – Computer Using Educators (CUE), producers of the Google Teacher Academy, also produce Google Workshops for Educators around the country. If you're in Minnesota – and you're interested in attending – click through and fill out teh interest form.
