So a few days ago I jumped ship from del.icio.us becuase their updates broke the daily blog post feature. I starting using diigo for my social bookmarking… just in time for their updates to break their daily blog post feature! They swear it will be back up tonight, so I’ve just bookmarked something good. :)
In the meantime, here’s a few gems from the last few days:
- Official Google Blog: Bring the political process to life in your classroom If you haven’t seen it at the Google for Educators site already, this project is getting more attention now: “With technology producing such dramatic changes in American politics, we want to make sure it’s easy for teachers to bring some of the best Internet tools into the classroom to help students get engaged.” Tags: politics, google, googleined, elections on 2008-08-19 and saved by 3 people –All Annotations (0) –Cached –About more from googleblog.blogspot.com
- ConverStations: Twitter + Yahoo Pipes = Signal I’m starting to learn a bit about Yahoo Pipes so I can prototype my new product idea (at David Brussin’s suggestion). Denis Grice sent me this how to post on creating a Pipe to filter twitter. Of course, TweetDeck can do this now, but it’s still a cool place to start with Pipes. - lbenitez . Luis Benitez . Socialize Me: Has Social Software killed eLearning ? My new reader subscriptions and setup brought me this post – from outside the usual echo chamber. This guy’s a software engineer who has worked on Learning Management Systems… and prefers his blog. - Social Media: Inspire: Innovation starts with education This looks interesting – but the site didn’t pull me in: “A couple of weeks ago Intel launched a new education-focused online community called Inspire. The site is now live at Inspiredbyeducation.com . The goal of the new site and community is to highlight the educational experiences that inspire people, allowing consumers and influencers alike to engage in improving the quality of education.” Tags: inspiration, intel on 2008-08-19 –All Annotations (0) –Cached –About more from www.socialmedia.biz

- Donklephant » Blog Archive » Higher Education – Dangerously Close to Becoming Irrelevant This post might be a good discussion starter – even among k12 educators: “Associate Professor David Wiley, Ph.D., raised more than a few eyebrows when he informed panel members that higher education in America was ‘in very real danger of becoming irreleva Tags: education on 2008-08-18 –All Annotations (0) –Cached –About more from donklephant.com
- InfoQ: Opinions: Why Most Social Software Fail and how to Avoid it More advice I’ll need to heed – and this article goes on in greater detail (and again I wonder what this model means to education, or at least to learning): “Why [do] some social sites have great success while others fail to reach out to the users? - Learning To Live With Less: Constraints, Rules And Web Startups Advice I may soon have to heed: “I believe web services benefit from doing less, not more. I believe that allowing the users to stitch web apps together to get increased functionality is better than a web service trying to do everything for everyone.” Doe Tags: startups, constraints on 2008-08-18 and saved by 2 people –All Annotations (0) –Cached –About more from www.alleyinsider.com
- Clark Aldrich’s Style Guide for Serious Games and Simulations: A Taxonomy of Interactivity From Clark Aldrich: “we need to nurture cultures around interactivity that are independent of any technology. We need vocabulary and expectations around interactivity itself.” He follows up with a 6 level taxonomy of interactivity. - Official Google Reader Blog: Pick your friends! Google Reader now allows more control over who you share with, but unfortunately it looks like it still has to be a subset of your Google chat contacts. It would be nice to be able to add someone to reader and not chat.
