iTunes U on the iTunes Store (It’s Official)

I don’t know how I missed this for a full week now, but it was just brought to my attention. You may have noticed the new “iTunes U” link on the left side of the iTunes store. Though some of us have been keeping tabs on it for a while, last week Apple officially announced iTunes U to the world. From the press release:

“iTunes U makes it easy for anyone to access amazing educational material from many of the country’s most respected colleges and universities,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “Education is a lifelong pursuit and we’re pleased to give everyone the ability to download lectures, speeches and other academic content for free.”

It’s now easier for us to show the educational benefit of podcasting for content consumption. The bit about content creation will still require a GarageBand (or Audacity) workshop and lots of educaitonal examples at the directories I mentioned earlier.
